Students completing the Clean Air Challenge are expected to develop the following
understandings:
 | People's use of fuels can affect air quality. |
 | Air quality affects health. |
 | People can, and have, made decisions that significantly
improve air quality. |
 | The ground level ozone problem results from chemical reactions
with organic chemicals. |
 | Changes in one part of a system affects the other components
of the system. |
 | Understanding of complex issues involves examination of all
relevant factors; successful solutions require extensive depth of knowledge, involvement
of key players, and compromise. |

NJ Standards
"Science should be taught at all levels with awareness of its connection to other
subjects and the needs of society. While these standards do not suggest a specific
curriculum design or sequence of courses, they assume that the relationship of the various
disciplines of science to each other, and of science to the overall learning experience,
will be strongly emphasized. The standards also reflect the needs of the students and
teachers of
New Jersey; indeed, incorporating New Jersey's unique natural resources in the
teaching of science should be a primary goal of school districts as they move towards
implementation."
The entire curriculum was originally
designed for grade levels 8-10. All middle and high school teachers are
welcome to participate.
Although many educators incorporate the activities and knowledge / content
into their existing curriculum, the Clean Air Challenge project has been used as a
2-3 week curriculum.
